The JU Postgraduate Program in Addis Ababa is proud to offer the Merit-Based Female Academic Scholarship to outstanding female graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to community engagement.
This scholarship aims to promote gender equity and support women in advancing their academic and professional careers.
Eligibility:
• Female students admitted to a JU graduate program in Addis Ababa
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.8/4.0 or equivalent
• Submission of a personal statement and recommendation letter
• Successful completion of an interview (virtual or in-person)
Benefits:
• Full tuition waiver excluding research, thesis and graduation costs
• Priority access to research assistantships and mentorship opportunities
• Recognition as an “EmpowerHER Scholar”
Scholar Responsibilities:
• Maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.7
• Mentor peers and submit quarterly progress and activity reports
• Submit a promotional proposal detailing at least five outreach activities per semester
Application Process:
• Submit Application: Complete the online application form and upload required documents before the deadline.
• Department Review: Academic departments will review applications based on merit and alignment with scholarship objectives.
Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
Final Selection: The Joint Steering Committee will make the final selection.

On the Home or Graduate Program page. This will redirect you to the official Jimma University Application Portal. - Create an account to sign in, click on show detail, then apply now
- Fill out the Application Form
Complete all required fields with accurate personal, academic, sponsorship and contact information. - Pay the Application Fee – ETB 2,000 (Non-refundable)

6. Prepare & Upload Required Documents
Upload the following documents as separate PDF files on the JU portal:
• Valid NGAT Test Certificate
• Academic Degrees & transcripts
• Sponsorship letter if applicable
• Recommendation Letter(s) (optional)
• Proof of Application Fee Payment and back receipt reference number
7. Review & Submit
Ensure all information and documents are correct, then click Submit to complete your application.
- Having a relevant BA/BSc degree from recognized higher learning institution. For those graduating from foreign universities, presenting a degree equivalence certificate from EFDRE Education Training Authority Office (ETA) is a must.
- Scoring the minimum pass mark in National Graduate Admission Test and presenting the Certificate during application (NGAT certificate is valid only for two years from the date of its 1st issuance).
- Passing the entrance exam prepared by the program owning department.
- Capable of submitting his/her 1st degree transcript to Jimma University Registrar office (POBox 378) before the final registration date.
- Recommendation letter from advisors/ instructors (optional).
